Final Goofy Training Run Recap!

Friday and Saturday were big days for me.  It was the last hard week of training before taper time and race day.  Because my travel plans were altered this week (fog in Philadelphia, delayed flights, etc) I ended up spending an extra day in the Boston area.  When I returned home on Friday, I immediately ate a prerun snack and hit the roads to high winds and a cool temperature.  I managed to run my twelve miles in a little faster time than I should have at 2:10.08.

Saturday morning arrived all too soon, and the weather was still quite windy and chilly.  I started my run, not feeling fabulous and just kept telling myself one more mile.  Not every run is a good one and I kept thinking it would improve.  One huge bonus was that Christine joined me for the last 8 miles on a bike with a basket of supplies that included food, Gatorade and water.  This helped tremendously when it would have been far nicer to hang up my shoes for the day. Somehow, this was the final result:

Today my legs are quite sore and shoulders which have never given me any trouble are also achy. Perhaps I tensed up due to the nerves since my body did not feel quite as strong as normal.  In any case, it is taper time.  I really look forward to healing my aches and pains and getting to the start of the races in Florida next month.

  1. I'm sorry your run didn't go as well as you hoped - but so impressed that you accomplished not only 24 miles but 10 the day before! Wow! Yay for Christine joining you at the end! Merry Christmas y'all and I'll see you in less than 3 weeks!!!

  4. Wow! 24 miles is amazing! Have you run a full marathon before, or is this Goofy going to include your first? I'm training for the Disney Marathon! Can't wait!

    1. This is my first marathon. I guess I may be called dumb since I am running the half the day before the marathon. Looking forward to it though!
