Goofy Training by the Numbers

There are many aspects to training for a big race.  For my upcoming Goofy Challenge, I have kept a very specific training log with my mileage and time/pace.  I thought it would be fun to make a list of certain statistics associated with the Goofy Challenge, including mine and some from the runDisney archives.
Stats from runDisney:
*  Number of years the Goofy Challenge has been run:   7
*  Approximate number of finishers in 2012:   5500
*  Race shirts you receive for participating:  3
*  Miles you must run to complete the race:  39.3
*  Medals you receive for the challenge:  3
*  Hours of training required to complete this race:  Countless
*  Days until the race starts:  34

My training stats:
*  Weeks of training completed to date:  23
*  Number of pairs of shoes used in training:  4  (excessive, but I am prone to shin splits and rotate my shoes)
*  Loads of sweaty clothing laundered from training:  countless
*  Miles logged in 23 weeks:  417.25
*  Hours spent training:  more than I can count
*  Extra food consumed:  copious amounts throughout the day, each and every day!

And Finally:
*  Excitement about upcoming Goofy Challenge:  uncontrollable
*  Amount I have talked about race to my friends:  unacceptable
*  Time spent anticipating and planning the WDW weekend:  immeasurable

  2. Me and my husband are doing Goofy next month as well! I'm so excited and have followed a training plan. I'm not worried about the half, me and husband are just gonna run/walk to take pics. Full marathons are not my cup of tea but I do 'em.

    1. Lucky you to have your husband to keep you company along the course. Actually, there are so many spectators and runners that Disney races are fine running alone. Good luck on your Goofy!

  3. And just wait until the Goofy challenge by the numbers after the race! Number of GU packets consumed, number of photographs taken with characters, and my favorite...the time you passed out on marathon night (I only made it until 7:30 this year when I fell asleep clutching those medals).

Sounds like the training is going great! Keep up the hard work, it will totally be worth it in a few weeks!

  5. I know I have said it a bunch, but you both don't know how much you get me going everyday! Your dedication is so inspiring! I wish I had the dedication like you both, it's hard to find time to train some times. I enjoy power walking any race I can afford. My husband is NOT interested at all, I try to get friends and family involved but it is very sporadic so I train alone. I hope to be able to do the Goofy some day. It is much more fun training and racing with somebody! I too get so excited when a race is coming up but have nobody to share it with. I do talk way to much about races, exercise, medals and places to race at, everybody is raced out! LOL Anyway, Hope to get to meet you both one day, Always wish the best of Luck! Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy!!

    1. Thanks for your kind comments. It is fun to engage with so many of our readers. Training by yourself is hard, as both Christine and I do it each and every week. But we do have the pleasure of planning our races and of course the fun outfits too! Is there a local running group you could join so you have someone to run with occasionally? Keep up your training and hopefully we will meet you soon at the most magical place on earth!

  6. I'm a total stat nerd so this post was awesome! You are doing to rock this challenge and I can't wait to read about it! Oh, and it's never unacceptable to babble endlessly to your friends about training and upcoming races...That's what friends are for!

    1. You are right about friends but I do try to keep my running conversations to a minimum. It is great fun engaging with other runners online. Thanks for the post and keep on running!

    1. No, two races are plenty for this 59 year old body. But I am also pleased with my recent back to back runs. Come on Goofy!
