Dopey Challenge, Here We Come!

Yesterday, Twitter, Facebook and many blogs were abuzz with the registration for the WDW Marathon Weekend events.  This year includes the addition of two new events - the Minnie Mouse-themed 10k on Friday and the Dopey Challenge (5k, 10k, half and full marathon).  Given the popularity of the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge in Disneyland and the record sellout, we wanted to be at the ready to get our hands on a coveted Dopey registration.

We spent quite a bit of time deliberating whether to sign up for the Runner's World Challenge and consulted Megan and Krista for their thoughts and input.  If you're interested in learning more about the Runner's World Challenge, you definitely need to read their four part review of last year's challenge - very insightful (parts one, two, three, four).  The registration for the Runner's World Challenge opened on Tuesday, in advance of all other registration types.

Given that we made the decision not to register for the Runners World Challenge, our registration was not slated to be available until Wednesday at noon for Annual Passholders.  However, Active.com seemed to have a soft opening, probably trying to avoid the challenges that have plagued some of the larger racers lately.  We were happy to slip in our registration forms earlier in the day than anticipated.

Hello Dopey Challenge...we are ready to conquer you and enjoy the wonderful running events during the January WDW Marathon weekend!

This photo was taken while we ran the Royal Family 5K, during the Princess Half Marathon weekend in February. We had no idea that a new race was about to be announced and that it would be called the Dopey Challenge!  Definitely a fun memory...and no doubt we will look a little silly after we finish 48.6 miles in 4 days!  It's quite a bit of running and we definitely need to get a good training plan in place.  We can't wait to meetup with old friends and new for WDW Marathon weekend!  Are you signed up for any of the races yet?

    1. Kristen, I understand about hurting. I was super careful with my Goofy training so I figure walking the 5k and 10k will work just fine!

    1. Jennifer, Congrats! As long as you follow a good training program you should be fine. I did the Goofy Challenge last year as my first marathon at 59 years old. Using Jeff Galloway's training plan was perfect and I loved every minute of my races and weekend. It will be a blast....just do the work ahead of time!
