Training Tuesday: Yoga Class

For the past two weeks, I have been attending a new yoga class at the gym.  It is a perfect workout after 45 minutes or more of cardio.  The main focus of this class is flexibility, balance and relaxing your body.  All of these things are perfect for me, since I do not spend enough time on any of them on a day to day basis.

Our instructor Laine switches things up a bit from class to class, but the basic program does not change much. There are plenty of downward facing dogs, pigeon stretches and dolphin poses. Since I am a girl who dislikes change, this works great for me.  What is most amazing to me, and anyone who knows me, is that I nearly fall asleep at the end of class every time!  Being a type A personality, I am constantly moving and on the go.  Yoga has become a great addition to my workout routine and hopefully the class will stay just the way it is!
I always am a "back of the room" participant!

Do you attend yoga class?  Do you mind change?

  1. I LOVE my weekly yoga classes. It's a workout I definitely look forward too. I've been taking a few different types of yoga classes lately and I like that I feel different after each one. Some are a sweaty workout and others are a calm, quiet more meditation like class.
It's definitely making me a stronger runner and my legs thank me for it afterwards, always a good stretch!

  2. I used to go to yoga every week for a few months to see if I would get any better but because my hands are no consistantly strong enough for some of the poses I just stopped going because it made me feel anxious and pathetic. I do however go to water aerobics which more or less stays the same. So while yoga may not have been it for me I do not like much change either. :)

  6. I am planning to start attending a yoga class. I am SOOO in need of something that will help me with stretching AND learning to relax....I have heard wonderful things about yoga in addition to running. I have avoided it for so long because my right knee doesn't bend very well (arthritis), but I figure if I can run 26.2 miles with this darn knee, I should be able to pull off a yoga class!

  7. Yeah for yoga! You of course know I'm doing yoga all the time! I actually used to be a back of the room type of person, until one day I got stuck in the front of the room and realized I liked it much better! There are a lot less distractions at the front with no one directly in front of me and I find I have a much better practice...now I'm always right up front!
