Have you Started Training for Dumbo Double Dare?

Several months ago, RunDisney came out with a training program for those of us participating in Dumbo Double Dare.  Jeff Galloway, the running consultant for runDisney offers training programs for all the Disney races.  I copied the plan off the internet and studied it. It looks like a great way to train smart and remain injury free while incorporating back to back runs to simulate race weekend.

Love a paper copy so I can make notes!

Not only did I download this program, but I have already made notes on the training days, so I can keep track of my workouts. Jeff recommends walking some of your back to back mileage and of course slowing down for high heat and humidity.  With summer here in North Carolina, I am trying to be conscious of the weather. My natural tendency is to keep to goal pace whenever I am training, which is a sure way to cause an injury or illness.  Hopefully, now that I am in my third summer of running, I will do a bit better of staying at a more reasonable pace when running outdoors.  Although this guide is strictly for the running portion of my training, I add many other workouts to my week to include strength training, yoga, stretching and of course dates with my foam roller.  The longer my runs, the more I need all the additional stretching and rolling to keep my body happy. I also include one day of rest and sometimes more depending on how the week is progressing.

We are now approximately 12 weeks away from race weekend so the next task is on our agenda.  What shall we wear for costumes?  Christine and I have made our choices, but now is the time to get all the parts together!  Have you started your training?  Do you plan to dress up for the races?

  1. I'm having challenges but have started. Having IT Band issues...and pushed a bit too much with my daughter running non stop a few months back on long runs....I'm back to Galloway...hope to figure it all out along with new shoes. Just went to get fitted for another pair of shoes...Interesting how last year I was in a neutral shoe and this time a stability shoe. Fingers crossed to start feeling better!

  2. I totally do the same thing with printing out the training plans and making notes all over them, this time I had to sort of build my own plan like Christine did since I have Marine Corp this fall as well - I think Christine and I pretty much have the same racing schedule!

    1. I do hope we get to meet at one of these races. Pam is still choosing her fall marathon but obviously it will not be Marine Corps.

  4. Howdy, I am actually using the Dumbo setup for the Glass Slipper since they haven't created a training program for that yet but it is essentially the same, just had to move the dates to the right places. I look forward to starting that in October. I am working through the October Ten Miler Program now to condition myself.

    1. That sounds like a great plan. I need to modify the plan slightly since I plan to run a fall marathon!

  6. I am so disappointed with Nike, they had the "create your own" shirts... I did it for the princess and had planned a really fun shirt series for the DDD... and now they dont have them!!! AHHHH 45 days and I am back to square one for an outfit. I cannot be vanilla for this race and just wear running gear, its my first time to DISNEYLAND!!! Alright, putting on my big girl panties and coming up with a plan (I found you by googling outfits :)).... I guess I better start prepping for Dopey so I dont end up short handed scrambling like I am now :P

    1. Hi Ginny, You can buy custom shirts through "One More Mile". We have bought them for several races and as long as you don't use a trademark photo, they can do most anything. Good luck with your shirt and costume! We are so excited about going to DL for Dumbo!
