Musings on a trail run

Last weekend, I set out to conquer the Noland Trail and run the entire thing.  It's a 5 mile trail that I have run in parts (there's a 2 mile segment) and also walked/hiked many, many times.  I love this trail.

It is part of the Mariners Museum park in Newport News and winds along the James River.  Sunday was a beautiful-looking day but I could tell from the moment I stepped outside, it might be a tough run from the sticky, heat.

- Wow, trails are tougher than I thought.
- Keep running, it will get easier.
- At least it's beautiful here.
- Wow, turtles sunning - yay!

- Get a JLo booty, get a JLo booty!
- Cute puppy dogs on the trail today.
- Glad I brought my hydration belt since the water fountain isn't working.
- Love being out in nature today - so peaceful.

- Wow, check out all these great runners.
- Pace is much slower on trail than road.
- I need more lateral strength in hips and knees.

Do ever run on trails?  I really loved it - I'll be back for more.

  1. Wow! If you ran the whole thing, you rock!! It isn't easy! I live right by the Noland trail and used to run it, but since my injury I stick to the pavement to let my foot heal more. I love it too though and was always slower when running Noland. I don't think I could conquer the whole thing without stopping a few times now! Awesome job!

  2. Not a trail runner. Too many bugs and snakes and things that slither and sting. I do love looking at everyone's trail pictures, but it just wouldn't be the same here, with the wildlife we have.

  3. I don't do trail runs.. not really.. I do one trail but it is paved and runs along a highway so it's not a real trail.. but there are lots of critters!

I'm certain that people would think I'm crazy if they could hear the random thoughts that pour through my head on a run!

  4. I run on a rail trail all the time( which is all flat terrain) and I love it. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about any cars. Probably the only downfall is that most of the races I run are on the road, so I don't really get a lot of road training in.
    Great Run!
