Training Tuesday: TRX Class

If you have been following our blog the last few months and especially on Tuesday, you know that I has been trying a host of different cross training methods, including classes at the gym.  My most recent test was at a TRX class, which is a class that uses suspension to add something new to a workout.  I was a bit hesitant to try this one, but Rachel, our gym director and instructor suggested it to me and I am glad I tried.  However, due to a busy schedule, I have only made it to the one class.  It is definitely on my calendar to make it to at least two of these a month.
Intimidating equipment ready to kill  put us through the moves!
Now to the details.....This type of class is meant to develop every muscle in your body through the suspension activity.  Your core is definitely engaged throughout and endurance and balance are also part of the focus.  When the class has more than 6 participants, two groups are set up with one group using the TRX suspension system and the other doing hard cardio workouts on the other side of the room.  This gave a great balance to the class and I was always eager to move from one side to the other.
On the right, my first try with the cables!

No class is complete without a few planks!
Have you tried TRX or any other new classes lately?

  1. That looks like fun and definitely a good workout! I used to use the TRX when I was working with a trainer and enjoyed it.
I am hoping to try a Barre class sometime this month.

    1. Oh let me know how you like Barre. I just saw a studio here yesterday when I was out running errands. May need to put that on my list of things to try!

  2. I haven't tried a TRX class, but I really want to, it looks like a great workout! I actually haven't belonged to a gym in years since I run outside and go to a separate yoga studio, but I'm thinking about joining one this fall if I can find a decent deal, unfortunately all the gyms around me are SOOO expensive!

    1. It is a great workout, but sadly the times are not great for me, so I have a modest goal of making it to class every few weeks. Gyms can be expensive, especially in big metropolitan areas. TRX is probably best for young fit bodies too! I found some of the moves difficult!

  5. I haven't tried any new classes lately...I'll admit, they do intimidate me a little! My friend Kelli did TRX for a while and really liked it!

  6. The TRX comes into use as part of a training session, a station in the Interval Classes or as it's own workout. Suspension training uses your own body weight for resistance.
