Color Me Rad

Yesterday I received an email confirming my selection as a race ambassador for the Color Me Rad race at the Wilmington, NC location on October 20th of this year. Since this is in my hometown, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try out a fun run!

You're now an official runner of Color Me Rad Wilmington, NC on Sunday, October 20, 2013.

The Wilmington race starts on the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus which I am very familiar with since I use their track frequently!  This should be an exciting race, with hopefully loads of college students participating.  Since the race is held on Sunday.  I think I can talk Tom into being my official photographer.  However, there is no way I could talk him into running!  With a little trepidation about this type of race, I asked a Facebook friend, Megan Biller about her experience with the Color Run last year.  She was very enthusiastic with her comments and will be running the race again this year.  While these are two entirely different race organizers, the concept is the same.  You can read her review here.

From what I can tell, the only necessity for this race is white clothing, glasses, and a happy face! This will be a whole new race experience for me and I look forward to this fun, untimed run.  If you are interested in registering for one of these races take advantage of their pricing of just $30 until August 9th!

Have you participated in a Color Me Rad race?

  4. I did Color Me Rad in Feb of this year ... it was actually my first 5K ever and I had a blast! The only slightly negative thing I could say is that I was in a later wave and some of the stations had run out of color and were having to scoop it up off the ground to throw at us (and we had to wait around for them to scoop if we wanted some). I did The Color Run in May, I was in the first wave, and didn't experience this issue. Overall Color Me Rad was really fun and will always be a cherished memory for me since it was the first time I crossed a finish line ever!

One tip: if you're going to bring your phone to take photos on the course (if Tom isn't available) or listen to music be sure to put your phone or ipod in a plastic zip lock bag. Some of the color stations (at least at mine) had water guns which wouldn't be friendly to your phone ... plus the colored powder could stick to the phone for some time. Same thing with your Garmin ... my Garmin has a white band and most of the color came off immediately, but some stuck on there and I can still see it to this day.

    1. Thanks for the tip about the zip lock bag. I do not plan to use music since it is a fun run, but I will have my phone. I am also in the first wave which should help out with lots of color! Can't wait!

  6. I just participated this past Saturday--was a great time, though my white lululemon running skirt will never be the same--luon doesn't react well with that color powder--my nike dry-fit shirt is nearly perfectly white again.

    1. I bought a cheap running skirt today at Costco...$6.97 so if it is ruined no problem. And I will "borrow" a shirt from my hubby!
