Never Give Up

My sweet Grammy sent me a nice card and a note this week.  She is one of the few people that still believes in the art of letter writing (I also subscribe to this way of life) and I always enjoy receiving mail with her return address.  In her note, she tucked a small poem that was my Grampy's motto/favorite saying.  With the Marine Corps Marathon being a mere 4 days away, it felt so very appropriate.  And for all of you, whether you're running a marathon this weekend, a training run or just focusing on something in your daily life, I hope you find this will resonate for you as well.

Never Give Up
No matter what is going on
Never give up
Develop the heart
Too much energy in your country
Is spent developing the mind
Instead of the heart
Be compassionate
Not just to your friends
But to everyone
Be compassionate
Work for peace
And I say again
Never give up
No matter what is happening
No matter what is going on around you
Never give up
