Training Tuesday: Coach Sami

Several weeks ago, I posted about my new running/coached group called Without Limits! The coach assigned to me is Sami Winter and we had our first meeting on a Saturday afternoon at Starbucks!  She asked lots of questions to find out more about my running, race calendar and training.  We worked on my training schedule for the next few weeks and she will be sending me an Excel spread sheet soon with specific training for my upcoming races.

Working on my race plans!

Just wait until I start to tell you about her accomplishments.  Not only is this girl a running coach, she is an ironman triathlete times 8!.  Yes, that's right, 8 times she has completed the ironman distance triathlon. She finished her most recent one at Lake Tahoe earlier this year. Who does that you ask?  My coach does! She also has run the Boston Marathon, throws in some ridiculously long bike rides and seems to have fun no matter what she is doing.

Celebrating her most recent Ironman - Lake Tahoe

I guess I should be scared of what is to come for a training plan, but her credentials make me think that with a little help, I can achieve the lofty goal I have set for myself!  We have made a deal, and if I reach my goal with her assistance, she will receive a handmade tee shirt quilt from her race shirts.  I hope my sewing machine is whirling through those tee shirts sometime in 2014!  I guess I forgot to mention that she is also a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.. She has 5 dogs, including some that run with her.  I'm so excited to be working with her and look forward to many happy practices! At least I hope they are happy and I am not crawling from the track to my car!

    1. I think you would really like a running group Danielle. Try it out on a short run and then you can decide if you like it or not.

  4. She sounds amazing! I'm definitely the type of person who does better with someone pushing me to do it and it's always extra helpful when the person practices what they preach (like Sami does!). Now if only I could just get over being intimidated by joining a running group!
