Road ID - A review and giveaway!

We think safety is really important when running.  We even wrote a post about it here and included the things we do to try to keep ourselves safe while exercising outside. Christine and I both have been wearing  Road ID slim bands for the past few years.  It is a small band that carries our important contact details should any problem arise when we are out running.
Love the pink slim band!
Just recently, my sister fell flat on her face while out for a easy Saturday morning run.  I was horrified because not only does she not carry a cell phone, she also does not carry her emergency information.  She managed to pick herself up and get back home, but if she had been unconscious, having emergency information easily available would have been very helpful.  Road ID to the rescue in the form of a stocking gift this year (shhh…don't tell)!  I just ordered her a band with her personal details and hopefully she will wear this regularly when going for a run or bike ride.

The bands come in several different styles and multiple sizes to fit most all wrists.  You can select your choice of color for your band and the ID portion has 5 separate lines for your important contact details.  Check out this special that Road ID is also offering now!

Here is the fun part!  Road ID has kindly given us a $35 gift certificate for a giveaway on the blog.  This would be a fantastic Christmas gift for any runner on your list, or perhaps it is something that you would like. Follow the Rafflecopter link below and good luck everyone! (This contest is open to those living in the US)
Disclosure:  We received no compensation for this post.  The opinions here are my own.

  2. I wear my Road ID (but would love another, I'm always misplacing it after runs!), stop to walk across intersections, and tell someone when/where I am running and when I return.

  5. Safety is so important! Since I usually carry my phone during my runs, I have the Road ID app downloaded with my emergency contact info displayed on my lock screen.

  6. I've looked at getting one in the past...They seem like a great idea.

  7. I have one of these and bought one for all my family members who run. Of course, they need to remember to wear them. My husband is out for a run right now, and when I was making the bed, what did I see? His roadid still sitting on the nightstand. Arrrgghhhh!

  8. I don't wear headphones during my training runs so I can be more aware of my surroundings. I also wear a flashing red light and something reflective to make sure I'm seen

  9. I have one that slips on the laces of my shoes! The only problem is you constantly have to switch it to different shoes! My family all wears and loves them!

  11. I'm getting one of these for Christmas! I have been wanting one for quite some time.

  12. In order to stay safe while running I try to stay aware of my surroundings! Especially when it is darker out, I wont put my ipod on so that I can't hear things around me.

  13. What an awesome giveaway. I would love to get one for myself and my husband. You can never be too careful :)

  14. I always have my cell phone with me and I listen to my music on speaker instead of headphones.

  15. This giveaway is perfect timing! I was looking into getting my sister one too. She doesn't carry her phone with her either. she runs a lot when she is on her trips with work and I always tell her to leave a note in her hotel room stating what time she left and where she went. Even though nobody will see her note, it makes me feel better knowing there is evidence that she left the room ( I guess i watch too many Datelines and the ID channel...haha)

  17. I carry my phone and would love a road id; thanks!

  18. I follow Hal Higdon on FB and one easy tip he recommended was writing your emergency contact # on the back heel of your running shoes. I just pray to God someone sees it if something were to happen! I usually do carry my phone with me in my SpiBelt too though.

  19. I carry my phone and ID on me while running. Thankfully I don't have any medical issues, but I know it's very possible that my phone could break, etc. if I fell. I've been wanting a Road ID for a while, but haven't made it a priority like I should have.

  20. I have to admit I am not the best about this stuff...I usually have my phone with my, but not always. I REALLY need to get a Road ID (my husband has been bugging me about it for ages!), and I should probably get some more reflective gear!

Right now the best I'm doing to stay safe is try to look out for my surroundings and the ground - the sidewalks around me are so uneven and if I get distracted I have a habit of falling (more times than I care to admit!).

  21. Safety is so important to me while I am running- mostly because I am a small woman. There were a few eye-opening abductions and attacks in our area (one ending so tragically for a young woman who was running on a popular trail- RIP Chelsea King!). I always make sure to run places where I can be seen by many people OR I run with a buddy! I also always tell someone when I am going for a run and how long I am going for.

I bring my phone with me just in case but who knows if that will have any battery power left in case of emergency. I've really been thinking about getting one of these Road ID bands!!

  22. I always make sure someone knows where I am and how long I planned to be out... I carry an expired driver's license in my fuel belt that has my husband's contact information on the back... I carry my cell phone too. Hoping I win!

  23. I always go out for a run with a buddy. It has probably been over a year that I have run outside by myself. With that said, it is still a good idea to have some kind of ID on you when you're out, either a bracelet, license or phone! I've been asking for a Road ID for Christmas the last several years, and it's on my wishlist again this year! :o)

  24. I've been using the neoprene one for years that I wrap around my ankle. Scary as it may sound, after investigating accidents and taking advanced training in crash investigation, one thing to keep in mind is when a pedestrian gets hit by a vehicle, very often the person is knocked out of their shoes-literally. Having something on a leg or wrist may be the better choice. Just an FYI for everyone....

  25. I run with my cell phone and also usually have a buddy... but not always!

  26. i run in the gym or when outside i run with my phone dont go out at night too dangerous

  27. I have been wearing the velcro shoe id one for years and love it. While I was coaching I would have kids ask me all the time what the thing was on my shoes. They thought it was great and a bunch of my athletes and their parents ended up with their own over the years.

  28. I do a two mile loop around my house and always tell my husband how many miles I will be doing so he knows when to expect me back inside.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I usually run at a park instead of on the road for safety!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I make sure my hubby knows my route, run with my phone, and wear my ROADID whenever I go out!

  31. To stay safe while running, I carry my phone and id. Races I bring insurance card. In the dark, carry knuckle lights

    ReplyDelete
  32. I ALWAYS let my boyfriend when and how many miles I'm going so if he doesn't hear from me he can go looking. We are in a small town so there really aren't THAT many places to get lost

    ReplyDelete
  33. I always carry my phone with me - it has my medical information taped inside of the phone case. I also keep Map My Run live the entire time I'm out, so that if I don't come back there is live GPS following me.

  34. I always carry a paper version of my id with me that I got from dmv when I renewed my license. But I keep going back to Road ID thinking I should get one!

  35. I have one that slips on my shoes, and I love it! I have it on my running shoes, so that way I don't have to remember to put it on (as I would a bracelet or anklet). My husband is a triathlete, and I bought him an ankle one that he has worn for years now. Definitely a smart investment!

  36. I hate to admit it, but I do run without any form of identification. I need to make an investment and at least put something in my spi belt or get a road ID for my shoes. I run with my phone, but I suppose it will be easy for someone to grab my phone if they were to grab me too! Or if i get hurt, my phone could be damaged.

  37. I really want one; I've only been running on a treadmill so far, and my phone is ALWAYS on me, but... I have some pretty serious health problems, and being able to have my medical history available if I'm not capable of giving it is so worth the money. I just don't /have/ the money to buy it.

  38. I also had a fall during a run and broke my arm (in two places!) a mile into it. Luckily, I did have my phone with me since I run by myself and my mother worries if I don't. However, I was very close to hitting my head on the sidewalk when I fell, so if I'd passed out, the phone would have been pointless. After that, my cousin told me about the Road ID bracelet and I got one. I feel a lot better running with that around my wrist.

  39. Even though it typically looks ridiculous I wear as many bright colors and a head lamp on any dawn or dusk runs. I also make sure to text mt husband where I am and sometimes another good friend.

  40. To stay safe while running, I wear reflective gear, and I always let someone know I am out, how long I will be, and the path I am taking!

  41. I usually run with my cell phone - but this would be a good option as well. Guess I know what I can ask for for Christmas! (unless I win it here first! :)

  42. I've been thinking I need to get a roadID. Currently i only run with one ear bud in, run with my cell phone, run with a whistle, and try to run in "popular" running spots where other people are at. But as my long runs start to rev up for GSC training that's going to start to be difficult.

  43. I just go out and run and never really think about needing an emergency contact. This would be great to have.
