Holiday overload, sweets and more treats

It's sugar detox time and we have not gotten to the middle of the month.  Who else is in full sugar/alcohol/party overload?  The worst part is that my baking has not even started.  That's right folks...I am just deep into the Christmas candy right now. Each year, I try to be good and last year during Goofy Challenge, I managed my best year yet of stepping away from the treats.  The training schedule was so intensive for a first time marathoner that I adhered to a very strict healthy eating plan as well. Not so much this time as evidenced below!

Treats at my house!

Maybe I should start an online support group for sugar! My body is so full of sugary treats and adult beverages that I can barely function during my runs.  Each day, I play "Let's Make A Deal", and each day I fail miserably.  However, yesterday was the worst run I have experienced in a really long time.  When I started out, my legs could barely move.  Yes, an eighteen mile run on Saturday was tiring, but the sluggishness I felt was beyond that.  With lead sugar in my belly and post party drinks, it was logical that my run would be less than stellar.  Actually, it was awful and I needed a wake up call with Dopey coming up in just a month!  The weekend before Christmas is the biggest challenge on my training schedule with runs of 3, 5, 12, 24.  Yikes, I need to get rid of this candy! If you have any good tips on how to get control of these habits during the holidays please do tell(Pam)

  1. I want to just pull all those sweets out of the computer they look so yummy!

Honestly though, the best thing to do if you reeeeeally want to get rid of them is to bring them to work and let all your co-workers eat them lol

  3. You can send them to me Pam! I love the candy cane kisses and the Ghiradelli squares (the holiday ones). I haven't started in on the holiday candy and cookies yet. I'm sure in a few days when all the holiday parties kick into full swing, it will be a different story! How was your Holiday golf tournament?

  4. The Candy Cane Hershey Kisses are my FAVORITE this time of year. So far I've been good and haven't bought any this year.

  5. It's always rough to have a race weekend right after Christmas and New Year's. The fun part was I had done my race before Christmas last year, so I let myself indulge. Now I have to be good until after marathon weekend, but I baked ginger snaps on Sunday.

  6. Go to your dentist's office loaded down with the goods and leave them for the patients. You won't have to be tempted and he/she will appreciate your assistance in you providing them with job security!!!

  7. We have a CVS about a half mile away, if that....the candies are so tempting...there are so many kinds of Kisses and I want them all! I've been good so far (except 1 hollow Santa), and I hope I can stay that way.

  8. My strategy (that is working) is to not allow the candies in my house. I am allowed to eat some at work or at family/friend's houses. Once it is in my kitchen or the candy dish, I lose track of how many I've eaten!
This year my other motivation (besides running) is to look great in my wedding dress - good motivator indeed :)

  9. I'm about to embark on a candy/cookie/treat journey this weekend--making over 120 bags of treats for my employees. I'm afraid...very, very afraid! One tip: stay away from Pinterest! I keep finding more and more treats I want to make, and have no one to make them for, so they might all end up in my house!
