WDW Marathon Weekend Waivers & Corral Info

This week, runDisney released lots of information for marathon weekend and the all-important waivers and corresponding corrals were revealed!  For those who are new to runDisney events, you will receive a waiver that includes your bib number.  The bib number will correspond to a specific corral placement.  You can access your waiver here.  Be sure to print and sign it and tuck in with your travel documents.  There are computers available at the expo but this will be one less line you'll have to wait in!

And now for the ever-anticipated corral groupings!

This is pure speculation on my part, but I'm guessing that corral placements for the 5k and 10k will likely be available at the expo.  Typically you don't get an advance placement for the 5ks, but I'm not quite sure how they'll handle that with the Dopey Challenge runners.

We will both be in Corral G based on our placement for Dopey.  We know that a lot of folks are concerned about corral placements this year especially without the option to change corrals at the expo.  Given that there are smaller corrals and more of them, people are bound to be dropping into higher letters - we certainly are!  After submitting a 2:17 half time for last year's WDW half, I was placed in Corral B.  And this year, with a 2:03 half time, I'm in Corral G.  All things considered, we believe we are in the right place.  However, I believe it's worth noting that Mom's updated half time (1:59) which she submitted does not seem to be incorporated because her bib number is higher than mine.

At which letter will you be lining up in a few weeks?  How do you feel about it?

  1. Hi Ladies!
Can't believe this is right around the corner! I was thinking they released the waivers early...and then looked at the calendar!! I will be in corral J, but considering there are 4 races...I am alright with this. My goal is to finish non-injured and make my marathon goal time. This is full dress rehearsal week for me - 2 runs down and 2 to go. How many minutes are there between corral starts? My whole family is coming and we need to plan ahead. Countdown is on!

    1. The countdown IS on! It's crazy! I can't believe we only have one big weekend of running left and then it's taper time!

  2. Corra P! Wow..I'm curious to see how this plays out!
Last year, I was placed in Corral D for Goofy when I should have been in Corral B. Disney Facebook groups speculated that Goofy runners were placed back a few corrals on purpose, although I'm not sure why?
I hope you ladies have a wonderful time!! :0)

    1. I actually think more corrals will be good. When I ran Rock 'n Roll Virginia Beach, I think I started in corral 12 and there were 20+ corrals in total. There's lots of speculation that the challenge runners were bumped back a corral or two. Regardless, we'll cross the finish line and have fun! :)

  3. I am not running Dopey, but this has me quite curious as to how they are gonna handle placement for the GSC in Feb. I worked my but off this year so I could get a good corral placement! But alas, I know it's not about where you start out, it is just about enjoying the race and finishing! Have a great race (races)!

    1. Yea there's been lots of speculation on various FB groups that the Challenge runners were handicapped a corral or more. In fairness to runDisney, I have to assume the seeding for challenge and non-challenge runners is very complicated.

  4. With this being my first half marathon, I was very excited the other day when they released the corrals. I'll be in Corral I for the half, and will have to wait until the expo to find out my corral for the 10k. Although there's been many people upset about being "bumped" back to higher corrals, its important to remember how small some of the early corrals are. My husband was in Corral A last January for the marathon, but is in Corral E for Dopey. As you said, there's been a lot of speculation as to how corral placements were determined and whether or not challenge runners were pushed back or not, and although higher corrals would be nice, its not about where you start the race but how you run it and how you finish it.

    1. Well said! I'm perfectly fine with our placement but I do have a few friends who are clearly in the wrong corral based on their time submission. And I think if Mom's PoT had been updated, she may have been in F. But c'est la vie - we'll cross the finish line! :)

  5. Hmmm, interesting. I wonder if they decided to take a different approach to seeding for marathon weekend compared to Dumbo. I'm also curious to see how this will play out for GSC. I forgot to update my POT by December 1st and am a bit mad at myself for that. But, from the sound of what happened to Pam, maybe that doesn't make a difference anyway. How frustrating. It's not like these races are cheap!

  6. That is great y'all are starting in the same corral. Even though it may not 100% reflect your half times, the corral doesn't matter too much in my opinion - all about the journey and the finish line! (I have heard that there have been a lot of issues with corral placement for this race though)

  7. There are 4 in my group doing the half and two of us are in H and two (including myself) are in I. I just intend to have fun since my injury won't let me push for time.

  8. As you know I have A LOT to say on this topic, but I'm going to be a big girl and keep it to myself...

  9. I really think runDisney should have been upfront with Dopey runners when they were mentioning all the ahem...upgrades to the race. There has been some chatter that Track Shack told a runner they are penalizing Dopey runners 15 minutes since their pace over the weekend would go up (which I'm not sure I believe). I would be lying if I said I didn't care, but what's done is done. I just wish I would have gotten that information in a more transparent way. This was a bit of a blunder on rD's part.

    1. I agree. I spoke with Track Shack today and while the guy didn't come out and SAY Dopey runners were being penalized, he did say, "well running 4 races over 4 days you're not going to be able to keep your usual pace."

Says who? I've been training to keep my usual pace and I certainly plan to try. Ok, enough from me or I'll start venting again!

  10. I'm in J. Middle-ish, which is fine with me. I'm worried about the jet-lag issues from the West Coast in addition to a super early wake up. I'm not expecting to do anything amazing time wise. I'm very interested to see my Tinkerbell placement.
