2014 runDisney New Balance shoes

Earlier this year, there was great excitement about the latest runDisney New Balance shoes at the On the Road to Disney meetup in Atlanta.  At that time, the pink Minnie and sorcerer Mickey logos were revealed but we've been waiting a while to see the final glory shots of the shoes.  But wait no longer…Thursday morning, Competitor Magazine posted an article with beautiful shots and some additional details of the shoes.  And not long after that, the Disney Parks Blog posted the latest information and a runDisney blog includes additional details on how to obtain a pair.  Holy shoe overload batman!  That's a lot of information to digest…so we did it for you!

Shoe Overview
* There are six shoes being offered in total - New Balance 860 v4 in Sorcerer Mickey and Pink Minnie for both adults and children and the New Balance 890 v4 in Goofy and Cinderella patterns.
* The New Balance 860 v4 are a stability shoe while the New Balance 890 v4 are a neutral shoe.
* Kits to customize your shoes with special inserts, shoe charms and a sticker will also be sold.
* Previous versions of the runDisney New Balance sold last year did not come in width options so it's unclear if there will be width options this time.

The Cost
* Adult 860 v4 Sorcerer Mickey and Pink Minnie: $125 plus tax
* Adult 890 v4 Goofy and Cinderella: $120 plus tax
* Children's 860 v4 Sorcerer Mickey and Pink Minnie: $72 plus tax
* Customizable shoe kit: Price unknown

Acquiring Them
* They are only available at one of the runDisney race expos, starting with marathon weekend next week.
* This year, there's a fast pass-like system for getting the shoes.  At the marathon weekend, expo, you'll follow the footprints below to the New Balance staff at Champion stadium to reserve a time to go to the New Balance booth.  You'll receive a text message and/or email confirmation of your time and periodic updates as your time nears.
* Each purchaser will be allowed to purchase 4 pairs of adult shoes and 2 pairs of kid shoes.
Follow these footprints to reserve your time at the New Balance booth!

Additional Shoe Details
* The Mickey, Minnie and Goofy shoes all have a mouse ears pattern on the inside of the shoe while the Cinderella pair features a glass slipper pattern.
* The Minnie shoes have eyelashes on top lace hole.
* The Cinderella shoes come with two pairs of laces - regular yellow laces and light blue ribbon laces.
* All shoes feature some hidden details…I'm guessing there may be a few hidden Mickeys!

So what do you think?  I wasn't wowed but after watching the video, the detail on the shoes is pretty incredible.  And I have a feeling my partner in crime may be in line for a pair of the pink Minnies!

  1. My feelings about the new shoes have been very mixed. I was initially excited when we first learned about the new shoes during the reveal at the Atlanta meetup, but as each additional detail has been revealed, I've become less and less excited about them. Personally, I think that the 2013 shoes look much nicer than the 2014 shoes.

  2. I'm not a Disney runner (yet) but I love the design choices!

  3. I think the women's options are so cute! I will be in line for a pair of Cinderella's at Tink in a couple weeks!

  4. Is there any more information about the shoe models themselves, regardless of the designs? I.E. are these new models or existing New Balance shoes that they have redesigned?

  5. I was never a fan of the run disney shoes, but out of all of them, I would be most inclined to purchase the Cinderella ones! I've been wanting a pair of blue running shoes for some time now.

  6. I definitely don't "need" these but they are a "want" for me! I might pick up the Cinderella shoes at PHM...super cute :)

  7. I've been needing a new pair of shoes, and I like the blue ones, but I'll wait and see how this new system works. My heart is certainly not set on them. I'm not going to get in until 4:00 on Thursday. I'm hoping to get to the expo that evening, so if they're allotting a certain number per day, they may be gone by then. On Friday we're off to the Kennedy Space Center, so waiting around for an appointment that day is out. Outside of the shoes themselves, there's just something about the way all of this is being handled that really turns me off. I'm not one of those people who goes in for "exclusive" stuff and competes with others to get it....especially running shoes, something that you get a year out of if you're lucky. I'm definitely mixed on this one...

  10. I wasn't tempted by the first editions because I need a neutral shoe, but I'm loving those Cindys and they are neutral. I may have to pick up a pair at Tink or Princess!
