Disney Family Fun Run 5k Costumes

As part of the Dopey Challenge, we will be running the 5k race on Thursday morning.  While we normally dress up for our races at Walt Disney World, this time we are dressing up in costume only for this race.  We both have fun outfits that are themed for the Minnie 10k, Half Marathon and Full Marathon, but they include real running clothes!  For the 5k, we decided to dress up in characters from the Hundred Acres Woods.  Christine chose Piglet, her very favorite character of all time, and I picked Tigger.  Back in October, Lesley from Greater Fitness offered to make a tutu for one of us.  Immediately I wanted to do this and bring out my inner ballerina, or rather inner bounce like Tigger!  After several emails back and forth with Lesley, we had a design plan and she had the measurement she needed to make my tutu! Next, I shopped for an orange tech shirt and mailed that to her for color match.  Several weeks later I received this beautiful tutu in the mail. Isn't it gorgeous?!  I always wanted to take ballet as a child, and now is my chance to prance run in a tutu.

My Tigger tutu!
After getting back the shirt and tutu, I got to work planning the rest of the costume.  I had taken these photos during the Wine and Dine weekend (at a shop in Magic Kingdom) so I had an idea how to decorate my shirt and visor.

It's easy putting together a costume with a little bit of inspiration and help from a hot glue gun and sewing machine!  I chose some orange foam for my visor with a black base underneath, and cut out ears and hot glued all of this together.  Total cost was $2!  I purchased my tech shirt at Walmart and used some felt that I had at home to make the tiger stripes.  While I used a sewing machine to attach these to my shirt, they could easily be attached with fabric glue.  Total cost of the shirt was $5.96 since I already had the felt.  Here are all the parts ready to wear on Thursday morning:

Be sure to say hi if you see us on the race course Thursday.  We can't wait for the fun to start!
