Last minute preparations

It's hard to believe that I'm heading down to Florida on Wednesday morning for marathon weekend to complete the Dopey Challenge.  While it seems like ages ago that I made the crazy decision to register for this challenge, I can't believe it's finally here!  I spent the weekend doing lots of things to prep for the weekend - packing, my final "long" run and chatting with fellow runners about their prep.  I've had moments of feeling very calm and prepared and others of the complete opposite bordering on a panic attack.  Preparing for this race is different than any other.  First of all, they're not local so I have to be pretty diligent with packing all of the necessities.  The weather forecast seems to change every time I check, which is basically every 2-3 hours now.  I've tried to channel my nerves into making sure I'm well-packed!

Some might call my packing techniques a little OCD, I call it organization!  I've made lists and more lists.  I've checked and double checked my race "gear bags" to make sure I have everything I need.  I'm packing excess of certain things because I can…I mean does anyone really need 293,578,289,738 hair ties?  Probably not.  And do I need 20 extra safety pins?  Again, probably not, but such is life.
KT Tape is organized with other odds and ends like
safety pins, hair ties and headbands

A few of the random thoughts swirling around in my head…
What if it rains for the marathon?  That will suck so bad!  You've got a visor, that will help keep the rain off your face at least.  And maybe it will feel good.

Holy $@!*%#! I'm running a marathon next Sunday!

But hey, your first marathon was super fun, remember?  You'll have fun at this one too.  One mile at a time.

I can't wait to see all of my running buddies!

What if I forget something?

Man, those four 3AM wake up calls are going to be brutal.

Eye on the prize, Christine. You trained hard for this pig.

How are you feeling?  Nervous?  Excited?  Both?

    1. Both of us do this! I have been using plastic bags and the travel plastic bags for years. They keep your clothing clean and organized at the same time!

  4. I thought I had put everything on my packing list, but I just realized I forgot to pack extra safety pins! Thanks for the reminder! (And maybe my panicked realization is due to how excited/nervous/anxious about this coming weekend! I'm sure I'm forgetting something else.)

  9. My nerves are starting to get to me, I didn't sleep much last night. I too worry about the weather and packing all the necessities for various weather conditions. I know that I need to trust my training and everything will take care of itself. Rain during race day has to be better than the cold we've been having lately.

    1. Emilie, I think I may be in the minority, but I would prefer cold than hot. However, since we don't choose the weather we will just plan to have fun and not worry about it!

  13. I'm not nearly as worried about the weather in terms of racing conditions as I am about travel conditions. There have been way too many airport closures and flight cancellations in the news the last few weeks! Just hoping for a break for the whole thing so the travel runs smoothly!

    1. Agree Jennifer. We are both worried about flight delays and cancellations. Fingers and toes crossed we all get there on schedule!

  17. I did the Dumbo at the end of my 2 week honeymoon so I was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY OCD to make sure I had everything I would need for race day...of course I ended up bringing the wrong charger for my ipod. Anyway, the baggies are a great idea! Definitely doing that for the Princess! Good luck! I can't wait to see all the pictures and costumes and read all the recaps that make me ridiculously jealous!
