Tomorrow we marathon!

By the time this post goes live, we'll have about 24 hours until we cross the starting line and begin our journey in the Mickey Marathon, the last leg of the Dopey Challenge.  And it's not only special because we're nearing the end of our journey, but we'll be celebrating Pam's Birthday.  You see back in the spring when this epic challenge was announced, she emphatically told me that this was what she wanted to do to celebrate her 60th.  I was nervous because I wasn't exactly sure if I was on board.  I was a witness to the hundreds of people struggling to finish the Mickey Marathon last year in extreme heat, many of whom were completing Goofy's challenge.  It wasn't exactly the type of spectacle that made you think "ooh me next!"  But I was determined that I would join her, and the rest, as they say, is history!

This Christmas I decided that we needed something to mark the occasion on our race outfits.  So off I went to my trusty graphic design program (errr the Google machine to get some image ideas and Power Point) and my favorite custom shirt printer - One More Mile.  I finished the designs, placed my order, and sat back with a smirk on my face, thinking she would be surprised.  To make a long story short, it was a bit of a stretch to get them to my parent's house in time for Christmas but they made it.  Unfortunately the design of her shirt was printed on my size shirt and vice versa.  But alas, she still got a box to open on Christmas and we've been anxiously awaiting the day when we can wear these shirts (we were able to resolve the sizing issue).

I can't imagine many other people crazy enough to commemorate their 60th birthday by running 48.6 miles, but then again, I can't imagine many other people running their first marathon the day after running a half marathon.  And my crazy running fool mama did that too!  So to all of our friends, if you see us on the course tomorrow, give Pam a high five, tell her she's a bad ass and wish her a happy birthday celebration!
