Dopey is homeless!

I've been agonizing in a somewhat excessive way about what to do with my Dopey Challenge medals.  Initially I planned to add them to my medal hanger, but it's already very full and somewhat cluttered.

I decided that the 6 Dopey Challenge medals needed their own place - a home that's all theirs to bask in the glory of 48.6 miles.  I spent hours looking at various options online and finally settled on one - a bib and medal holder combo with the inscription "Celebrate every mile."  It seemed perfect since we celebrated Mom's birthday while running 48.6 miles.  I entered my purchase information and eagerly awaited its arrival.

Last Friday, I arrived home from work to find the new addition to my race shrine waiting on my doorstep.  As I picked it up, I could feel it shift in the box and I also noticed that despite being marked "fragile," the box was pretty banged up.

I opened the box to find the wood piece not even wrapped and inevitably, it was damaged.  Two corners were dinged. I was sad.

I emailed the company to inquire about a replacement.  They offered me a 50% refund (not a replacement) which I declined and I requested a replacement or full refund.  They simply refunded my money, which I found a bit odd.  Sure, I am not out any money, but I was excited about this medal holder and I'm disappointed that the company didn't want to make it right.

So I'm back to the drawing board to give Dopey and his pals an appropriate place in my home.  Any ideas?!

  1. I found my medal display on Etsy. Look there- they have lots of choices! I hate it when things get banged up in the mail!

  2. You could just hang a curtain rod on a wall or get another peg coat hook thing for your medals. I have mine on a sliding glass door curtain rod (not over a window) in my office. I can spread my medals out and they provide inspiration while working on my computer.

  3. Seriously, no replacement?? That is terrible customer service...

I know I suggested this on Twitter already, but a shadow box is always an idea, especially for such a special race weekend! :0)

  4. I got my medal display from Allied, and they have a custom section on their website. It doesn't have a bib holder, but you could have the writing say something about Dopey.

  5. I have a hangar from Allied and I also have a curtain rod. There are some pretty fancy ones if you look around in places like Bed Bath and Beyond and major department stores. I think even Target has them. The curtain rod is good because you can make it shorter or expand when your collection gets larger.

  6. That really stinks that they wouldn't replace the holder! I'd be really bummed. :( Did you send them the pictures of the damaged product?

  7. Well that's an interesting customer service philosophy. The one I have is from Allied Medal Displays, but it doesn't hold bibs. Etsy always have some cute stuff that you can probably customize for Dopey specific if it's just for those medals.

  8. I am so sorry to hear about all your struggle with this company! Their customer service is very odd. I'm thinking a DIY may be a fun option (you know, with all your free time!) or maybe Etsy. I hope Dopey finds a home soon!

  10. Are you handy? Or know someone who is? You could build your own display. http://homeandawaywithlisa.com/blog/2014/2/13/ribbon-and-medal-display.html
Or even paint a board and add 6 hooks or knobs.

  11. awww so sorry to hear about your medal rack. that's not right that they didn't replace it. I got my medal rack from SportHooks. Check them out. :)

  12. I just made my own bib/medal display last week and I LOVE it! I would recommend that because then it will be exactly how you want it to be (and a whole lot cheaper). I got wood from Home Depot, painted it the color I wanted it, put hooks on it for the medals and bibs, then used vinyl letter to make the saying I wanted. It wasn't too time consuming at all.
