Weekly Roundup - February 2nd

It's hard to believe we are already in the second month of the year. January flew by as we raced at Disney World and then I was on vacation for an additional eleven days.  A month will always fly by if you are not at home! This week was an unusual one with the weather surprising us with snow in both Virginia and North Carolina.  Christine got over 8 inches of snow in Virginia and we had a few inches of snow and some sleet to make our roads and sidewalks into an icy mess.


 I escaped the weather by flying out Tuesday afternoon on probably the last flight to leave our city.  Being in Massachusetts with my mom was nice, but I know why we now live in the south.  It is so cold that running outside did not seem like it would be an option for months.  I have turned into a southern wimpy girl.

Our workouts were good this week and both of us got back to speed training after many slow longer training runs for Dopey Challenge. Christine also got back into the pool and I tried to vary my routines with some rowing and more mat work (sit ups, plank, leg work). Here is our week in review:

Sunday, January 26th
Pam: 20 minutes bike, 20 minutes elliptical machine, Bosu ball, sit ups and plank
Christine: 45 min swim, 2000 yards

Monday, January 27th
Pam: Without Limits practice: 5 miles total at 9:34 pace, one minute pickups with easy running in between
Christine: 45 min stationary bike, lower body work, core work

Tuesday, January 28th
Pam: Unexpected travel and rest day
Christine: Speed work: 1 mile warm-up, 4 x 1200 at 5:33, 5:22, 5:19, 5:15 with 2 min rest, 1/2 mile cool down. Total 5 miles

Wednesday, January 29th
Pam: 30 minutes bike, 1200 meters rowing, Bosu, plank
Christine: 40 minutes snow shoveling

Thursday, January 30th
Pam: Treadmill speed mile warm-up and cool-down  8 X 400 descending from 8:00- 7:35 total 4.75 miles
Christine: Tempo run cut a bit short by early gym closing due to snow - 1/2 mile warm-up, 3.35 miles at 7:53 pace, 1/2 mile cool down. Total 4.25 miles (was supposed to be 8)

Friday, January 31st
Pam: 30 minutes elliptical and weights
Christine: Rest day

Saturday, February 1st
Pam: Rest day
Christine: 1 hr Zumba

  1. There's nothing wrong with being a southern wimpy girl. After 12 years in Boston, you'd think I could handle any kind of cold, but Texas is different. On the other hand, I can make it through a Texas summer without any issues.

  3. Finally you all got more snow than we did here in the Shenandoah valley! Since my workouts are at the Y until it warms up - they were not affected by the snow!

  4. I will always and forever be a southern wimpy girl lol :0) Houston has definitely been up and down with weather this week, but Saturday's long run was perfect weather - 64F degrees!

  5. Being a former New Englander myself, let me say wholeheartedly there is NOTHING wrong with becoming a so-called "wimpy southern girl!" I like to look at it as having a decided advantage at Disney World events when everyone else is complaining about how hot and humid it is. :)

  6. I like all the seasons we get here but would definitely not move North ( above PA). I noticed you had some unexpected travel to Boston, I hope everything is okay with your mom?
