Friday Five: Things in my gym bag

This week, the lovely ladies of DC, Courtney, Mar and Cynthia are hosting a Friday Linkup of "What's in your Gym Bag?".  This is a fun topic and since I use a gym regularly this should be easy. But, since I don't work outside the home, my bag is pretty empty!  However, I will share my small list and the things that are most important for me to take when I go to my gym!

1.  A great attitude  Having a good workout depends on a good mental state of mind.  If you have a positive attitude, you can make great strides each and every time you workout.  Here are a few of the things that I like to see just before I head out the door:

Signs by my computer!

2.  A good pair of workout shoes  I believe in taking good care of my feet and having a comfortable pair of shoes makes all the difference.  Rotating your shoes is helpful too in keeping your shoes fresh for your workout.  I usually wear my shoes to the gym, but sometimes they are in my bag!

3. Reading material  When using the elliptical machine, stationary bike or treadmill, I need something to keep me occupied.  This form of exercise is not my favorite, but especially during the cold winter months, it is necessary.  So what do I bring to read?  My favorite reading material at the gym is magazines, and I just discovered this magazine a few months ago and I love it!

4.  Water bottle  I hardly ever leave home without a water bottle and heading to the gym, I am never without my bottle.  Maybe it should be a baby bottle I am so attached to it!  Because my family is familiar with my water bottle obsession, my collection is quite large!

A few of my favorites!

5.  I-Pod Shuffle  Sad but true, I need music when I am at the gym.  They do have music playing, but I like to groove to my own tunes while getting sweaty. Listening to the current hits help me get in a better workout, or at least I think it does!

So there's a peak at what I carry to the gym! What unusual item (s) do you have in your gym bag?

  3. Uh oh, I'm worried about the name of that magazine, are you looking into Ultras? :) At least half of my gym bag is dedicated to my big mess of hair! And I have my PHM13 Race Retreat flip flops. I got the smalls but they're still way too big for my feet, so they are perfect shower shoes for my nasty work gym shower!

    1. April, I will never do ultras. That magazine focuses on distance running, but 26.2 miles is my max!

  4. #1 is the most important, I think! Those quotes are awesome! Great list! :0) In addition to what's mentioned already, I usually have a foam roller with me as well.

    1. One of my running friends keeps her foam roller in the back of her car. It is always available for use!

    1. Meranda, I really think it helps shoe life by rotating. Also, it is fun to have several to choose from so outfits can match on race day!

    1. I;m lucky I can read on the elliptical and treadmill. Many of my friends find it too be too much motion to concentrate on their reading material.

  10. Oddly enough I never forget scissors. I always forget to precut some KT tape strips, so it always comes in handy. I also have a whole pocket of sweaty bands so that I have lots of options when I'm running. The most odd thing is a pack of playing cards... I put them in there for a trip I took a few weeks ago, and haven't pulled them out yet. I'm usually packing my bag last minute and there isn't time to find their home lol

    1. A deck of cards is unusual Leslie. However, the scissors is a great idea for KT Tape users. Thanks for commenting!

I've never been able to read and exercise at the same time. You are talented!

    1. Lauren, Not sure if it is talent, but there is no television for the cardio machines and I get bored very easily.

  15. I'm a bit of a water bottle hoarder as well! Having a great attitude is a great addition to bring to the gym – I find that if I'm in a good mood and rearing to go, my workouts are better than I anticipated :)

  17. Not unusual, but I like to listen to my own music at the gym, too. Something unusual- I travel a lot with my running shoes, so I made a zippered bag for them so they don't get the rest of my clothes dirty. :)
