Gymboss Review and a Giveaway

Disclaimer:  I was given a Gymboss to review on our blog.  No compensation was received for this post and as always, the opinions stated here are my own.

My goal race for 2014 was the Quintiles Wrightsville BeachMarathon that took place on March 16, 2014.  I wrote a full recap of the race and honestly it was one of my favorite races ever.  One of the reasons for that was the fact that I never had to worry about my intervals during the race.  Megan, my pacer had purchased a Gymboss interval timer and it was a brilliant thing to do.  I never got to see the intervals, but I am pretty sure it was set for 4:02 minutes running and :58 seconds walking.  We did one practice run of 20 miles, but since I kept track of the intervals, they were not exact since I used my Garmin and just estimated the times.

I was excited to receive this in the mail and finally had a chance to test it out on Saturday morning during my ten mile long run.  Setting up the Gymboss was very easy and I attached the clip so I could hook it right onto my running belt.  The instructions online are very clear and within minutes I was set to hit the road and try out my new gadget. The size, and weight make this a winner since you hardly notice that you are wearing it.

Gymboss did not disappoint once out on the road.  Having the option of either vibration or a little beep, I chose the beep and found it was very a very effective way to manage my run/walk intervals for a long run.  More often than not, I try to save my legs by running the longer runs with intervals. This worked perfectly and will be in my pile of running gear in the future.  I am also excited to use it as a stopwatch when I swim laps at the pool, do planks in the gym, and also for intervals when I do cross training.  It has many uses and is a great addition to my workout tools.

Now for some fun.  Not only was Gymboss kind enough to give one of their interval timer/stopwatch devices for me to try, they are also allowing us to give one away of your color choice.  Enter the contest below using the Rafflecopter link.  Please be advised that the contest is open to those people living in the continental US.
Thanks!

  8. Right now I use my Garmin for intervals and always wished it would vibrate because sometimes I miss the beeping. I like that this has the option of vibration. That's why I would want one. -M

  9. I'm definitely in need of anything that helps with interval training since I'll be trying the 4:1 when I do Goofy in January! :)

  12. I have one, and love it--but my hubby keeps "borrowing" it :) LOL Sometimes the simple stuff works even better than all the fancy technology that's out there!

  14. I have a garmin f10, but would love the gymboss for days when I want to go "unplugged" on a run but still manage my intervals properly.

  19. I would love to be able to just carry that little Gymboss instead of my phone for my intervals when running! So much easier!

  20. I always do intervals for my long runs, and like you Pam, used my Garmin to guesstimate. Having a Gymboss would make doing them so much easier, and it would be excellent timing to get one before Goofy training starts!

  24. I've been looking at Gymboss as a way to make sure I stick to intervals during races. I tend to get a little carried away in the moment and miss my regular ques.

  25. I've been looking at getting a timer to use that isnt my phone. I use Jeff Galloway run walk so having my intervals is important. Ive been looking for something simple until I eventually break down for a garmin. This looks to meet exactly my needs.

  26. Been using a stopwatch and would Love Something better to use!

  27. I would love a Gymboss because it would be so much more effective than the stopwatch on my own watch. I wouldn't have to keep glancing at my wrist, and I might be doing a 20-miler this summer, so I know I would only survive the heat and distance by doing intervals!

  28. This would be awesome because I am just starting out running. Would love to use this instead of my phone and killing it.

  29. Intervals is the only way I run, so this would be very useful for me!

  30. I am trying to do the Jeff Galloway run walk run method for my first disney half marathon in Feb- cannot wait!

  32. I'd love to try one of these! I've never done intervals, but they seem to be the way to go for longer runs!!

  33. Love to add another gymboss to my "pile" of running gear as well!

  34. Wait, does your Garmin not do intervals?? I can't imagine how hard it must be to run 20+ miles having to look at your watch for intervals!

I had a GymBoss that I used for my first marathon training before I got my Garmin but unfortunately it died, I'd love a new one to try to use for track or HIIT workouts!

  35. Love the Gymboss timer!! :-)

  36. I am training for my first marathon and using the Jeff Galloway run/walk interval method. I think the Gymboss would be great for that!

  37. How would you rate this in comparison to Galloway's timer?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love running intervals but I hate having to constantly look at my watch!

  39. Well isn't this the coolest thing ever! I do HIIT intervals on the treadmill, using a clock but it's hard when you're outside, this is perfect for that!

  40. I would love a Gymboss timer because I like the Galloway approach for long runs and would get great use out of this!

  41. I use intervals on most runs and use my Garmin watch. If I didn't have to check my watch and had a timer instead, I wouldn't focus on distance every time I check my time. It would be helpful mentally to have!

  42. This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! Seriously, I just said to my son on our last run, I need something that beeps so I don't have to keep looking at my watch... this would be perfect!

  43. I have never tried one of these, but they look neat--thanks for reviewing it and "introducing" me to it!
