Five favorite fall foods

Time for another Friday linkup with the girls of DC, Mar, Courtney and Cynthia and the topic of the day is a favorite of ours, food.

It's that time of year when the temperature changes and so do our appetites. The holidays also provide us with the incentive to try new recipes.  Here are some of my favorite things to make or serve or devour during this season of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

1.  Chex Party Mix  I have made this mix for so many years, that I do not have to pull out a recipe.  If you follow the recipe on the back of the box, you will have a delicious snack for company, football watching or to take on a road trip.

2. . Pumpkin squares: A simple to make dessert, yet a true crowd pleaser and here is the recipe in case you would like to try these!

Pumpkin Squares
1/2 cup butter
1 cup flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 small can (15 oz.) pumpkin
1/2 tsp

1 package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups confectioners sugar

Cream butter and white sugar.  Then beat in brown sugar, then eggs.  Slowly add the pumpkin and remaining ingredients until blended.
Place in 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Cool and frost.

3.  Chick fil-A Peppermint shakes  If you haven't tried these, you are missing out.  I enjoy these every week during the holiday season and have to restrict myself to just once a week.  So good!

4.   Baking special cookies:  Seasonal baking is high on my list of fun and who doesn't want to return home from a run and treat themselves once in a while.  I actually ate Christmas cookies during a long run when I was training for the Goofy Challenge two years ago!

5.  Easy brie appetizer:  This is simple and a crowd pleaser too.  Purchase your favorite crackers and add a small slice of Brie and a small spread of this wonderful pepper jelly on top.  Use a festive holiday plate to serve and in minutes you will have a quick and easy treat for unexpected company.

Let us know what you enjoy eating this time of you?  Any favorites?

  1. I've never had a Chick fil-A shake - maybe that will change this season! may get addicting! I am a huge fan of pumpkin anything so thank you for sharing your square recipe

  2. Christmas is usually the only time of year that I bake. And since its the only time of year, I usually go overboard with my cookie making. I don't that I'll have time this year to make as many as I usually do, but hopefully I'll have time to bake a least a batch or two!

  3. my mom makes chex mix each year and it's awesome. i also love cookies -- allllll the cookies :)

  4. I would make the chex mix with my students every year but we would do the kind with the powder sugar and peanut butter. Some call it "puppy chow" and some call it "muddy buddies". The kids loved it and I thought it was pretty tasty too! -M

  5. You had me at Chick-fil-a Peppermint Shake! :) LOVE! The pumpkin squares sound delicious, too!

  6. I love that peppermint shake. I actually don't like the syrup so I get the mix put in the vanilla shake and it's so good.

  7. Uh, so I gotta try that Peppermint shake. Like tomorrow.

  8. I want to make the pumpkin squares! I serve pepper jelly on cream cheese so now I want try to Brie. Thanks for sharing.

  9. That appetizer sounds great! I love Brie but have never tried pepper jelly.

  10. I had my first peppermint shake of the season this past week...I get it with no whip or cherry to save a little on the calories can't wait to make chex mix...I could eat my weight in it!

  11. My favorite foods are all the Thanksgiving foods from deep fried turkey, to homemade cranberry sauce, to the mac 'n; cheese so thick you have to cut it out of the pan in squares.

  12. OMG, the milkshakes at Chick fil A are amazing. I wish I had them more often :) And you KNOW i stock up on the specialty chocolate chips this time of year!!
