Richmond Ready!

It's THIS week!  Holy cow!  How did that happen?  I know, I know.  All of the "big" races to sneak up on us and this one has been in my conscious thoughts for a while so now it's consuming a lot of my thinking. I'm excited.  I'm nervous. I'm ready for it to be over...in a good way.

1. Spectator Support: In an exciting turn of events, Mom and Dad are coming up to Richmond to get in on the race weekend action!  Mom is planning to run the 8k and then cheer. My family and race crew are all signed up to get updates. I have to admit that I'm kind of glad they don't do Twitter/Facebook updates because I always get nervous when I decide to post those in advance.

2. Nervous for...the hills, running alone, a time goal in a marathon, the downhill at the end. I have to admit that I forgot how nervous I get before a big race.  I've been working really hard not to expend too much energy feeling nervous, but I have my moments.  I haven't run a marathon solo so this will be new for me.  I have run many races solo but a marathon is a long time.  But heck, I've run 20 milers solo so I can handle this!

3. Excited for...a challenge, a new marathon, a scenic course, seeing some buddies. I am relieved that a smaller race means simpler logistics and hopefully a simpler experience.  I have yet to meet Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC in person at the many races where we have both been so we have agreed that we must meet this time!  And of course, I'm excited to see marathoning machine, M from Read Eat Write Run, again.

4. Want to get my hands on...one of these beauties for celebrating!  I like "useful" race merch and this is perfect.  And no Mom, it's not just for beer...I can drink water from it too!

5. Planning...my race playlist, my race outfit, my post-race eat-a-burger-drink-a-beer celebration outfit, my race strategy. I always love making a new playlist, mostly cause I love music.  I just added Taylor Swift's "Welcome to New York" and I'm obsessed.  I love her new album.  Judge away!

Have you run Richmond Marathon before and have tips to share?  Please!

  1. Very excited for you and Courtney! Hope you have a nice relaxing week. The glass tumblers are cute - I wish NY had more of the useful race merchandise.

    1. Thank you! Yes, I love race merchandise that I'll actually use. I have more tech shirts and jackets than I could ever possibly need at this point so I'm all about things I'll use.

  6. I've run the 8k twice and the half once (it was my first half). The trees are so beautiful right now, that it will add to the beauty of the course and running by the river. It will be cold, and hopefully no rain. It is the friendlies marathon in the country, so you may not run it on your own. Lots of people to chat with. I'll be at Avengers in Disneyland this weekend so I will be missing the race all together this year. Have fun and I can't wait to read the reviews of the lovely city and the friendliest marathon.

  10. Those glasses for Richmond are really cute! I can't wait to see how you do in Richmond and it's neat that you'll get to meet Courtney and maybe some other bloggers there. So awesome that you'll have your parents there to support and cheer for you too. My half marathon PR came when my mom was at the finish and I know that having her there had something to do with it.

    1. I have never had a spectator on a race course for me, which is kind of hard to believe. I've had friends meet me at the finish so I'm really excited to have some cheerleaders :)
