Countdown to Princess Half Marathon: One Month!

I can hardly believe that we'll be back in Disney for the half marathon that started our running adventures in a month. While Mom has returned to the Princess Half Marathon every year since 2011, this will be my first Princess weekend since 2013. I'm really looking forward to this weekend for many reasons...

Family Time: Like our first race weekend in 2011, this weekend will be girly family time with my Mom and Aunt. It's hard to believe this will be our 3rd Princess weekend together and I think it will be the perfect warm-up to the main event for our family race plans for the year, the Boston Marathon!

Celebrating our first half marathon in Disney!

A New Race Experience: While I've run the Princess Half Marathon 3 times, I have yet to complete Glass Slipper Challenge so I'm looking forward to a slightly different race schedule for this weekend.

Training: This will be my first race since my fall marathon that warranted a real training plan. I took some info from the Galloway plan for the Glass Slipper Challenge and have added some speed work from Run Less, Run Faster. The combination of the mileage build-up and light speed work should be a good combo for me to get back into my running groove.

Seeing running buddies: There are quite a few ladies who will also be down in Disney for the weekend and I cannot wait to reconnect and share a Mickey bar or a ride on Thunder Mountain with them.

Are you running an event during Princess Half Marathon weekend? What's your favorite part?

  3. As you know we will be at princess weekend too! We have been Princess weekend for the past 5 years but after experiencing Marathon weekend a few days ago Lacey and I decided that we might pass on Princess weekend next year and only do Marathon weekend again as it gets to be a little overwhelming doing so many Disney races so close together. I do love princess weekend though and perhaps I am just talking nonsense and we will end up doing it again next year anyway, who knows....lol. hope to see you there! -M

    1. Yes, definitely add it to your list! I think that each runDisney event each has its own vibe and I love the "girl power" vibe from Princess weekend.

  7. Best of luck to everyone running! I had to defer my GSC to 2016 due to injury. Right after registering for this race, I headed to outpatient surgery for compartment syndrome. The doctor thought I'd have enough of a recovery to run this event but no such luck. Still in physical therapy. If anyone hits a wall, remember those of us that can't run, dig deep & keep going!!! :)

    1. Thanks Leslie! Great advice. :) And what a bummer that you had to defer. Hopefully you'll be 100% and ready to run next year!

    1. Oh my goodness, the Star Wards races looked AMAZING! The medals were incredible and everything I read online said that the course (and characters) were fantastic.

  9. So sad to be missing this year! It's the first time in 5 years I won't be there. But having just done 3 Run Disney events in 3 months, my bank account needed a break;). I hope you girls have a magical, wonderful, "princessy" time!!

    1. Holy cow, I didn't realize you had been the last 5 years. That's impressive! Yes, I totally understand the needing a break thing. I didn't do Princess last year after having done Wine and Dine and then Dopey immediately leading up to it.

    1. Princess weekend seems to sell out very, very quickly so if you're interested in 2016, make sure you are ready to register the day it opens (usually in July). I know it can be challenging to plan so far out but this one always seems to sell out fast!

  12. I'll be there!!! I'm SO excited for my FIRST runDisney event! Sadly I won't be doing either the 10k or Half though, just the 5k. I was hoping to one at least but they both filled up so fast and I missed my chance. I'll have to be very quick on the draw this July so that I can do the Half in 2016!! I hope I spot you two at some point over the weekend... I'll be the one squeaking and pointing as I will have just spotted my runDisney Heroes! :-)

    1. Shannon, You may want to check with Jim Stone at Acclaim Travel. He often gets bibs returned so you may get lucky!

  18. I'm going the 10k this year with some girlfriends - this will be my very first 10k and I'm so excited and so nervous! I don't really know what to expect as far as weather and how strict pacing is and how many people there will be and...and....and..... LOL!! I'm a ball of anxiety.
