What I'm loving lately (the non-running edition)

1. Some new kitchen décor - I've been working hard to give my kitchen a much-needed makeover. I got a little inspiration on Pinterest and with some travel photographs. My goal was to do three things:  1) incorporate small amounts of green to balance the counter tops (which I hate, but somehow tolerate); 2) capture simple materials/textures like oak, chrome, and glass; and 3) incorporate some vintage flair. I'm pretty pleased with how it came together even if it wasn't a huge project.
New table decor and framed butcher prints and Irish cottages
Vintage vibes: diner-esque chrome clock over the back door and glass canisters
Lemon valance, wooden dish drainer, wall-mounted spice racks and new
light fixture (in lieu of the hideous ceiling fan that was there)
The cookie jar that I've been coveting for years!! My Mom
has had this one for years...it was "purchased" with Purina
points. I always thought it should be mine since I have a
sheepdog and after begging for it again at Christmas this
year, she found one on eBay and surprised me with my own!
2. Cards Against Humanity - I'm a little late to get on the bandwagon of this popular card game, but I always end up laughing until my insides hurt.

3. New reading material - I recently dropped my subscription to my local paper in favor of a national newspaper I love and get excited to receive, the Wall Street Journal.

4. The other day I tweeted about the Maroon 5 video for "Sugar" and was surprised that I wasn't as late to the party as I thought as I was. In addition to loving this catchy song, I love that they crashed weddings in LA for the video. Check it out! It's awesomely fun!

What's rocking your world these days?

  2. I had those same Butcher Prints hanging in my Classroom when we would be in the "meat unit"!
I have been in a decorating mood as well ( living room).
When we moved in to our house we actually took the light fixture out and put IN a ceiling fan w/light. I know they are kind of outdated now but boy is it useful everytime I make toast and the smoke alarm wants to go off...haha.
I have heard SO much about these cards Against Humanity and have yet to check them out! -M

    1. Oh that's funny! I love them - they were Adam's and I have happily adopted them. :) Living in the south, I love a ceiling fan but I found that the one in the kitchen always felt dirty so I swapped it out. Oh my gosh, that game is so inappropriate but it's hilarious!

    1. Thanks Mindy! I worked hard to try to get "the look" and I feel pretty good about it. I think Mom wanted me to quit complaining about the cookie jar.

  4. I love the bright decorations! I've been feeling like some home decorating needs to take place. Everything feels blah here. I'm loving running the treadmill. Don't tell anyone.. That little hamsterwheel is making me faster one run after another :)
    Cute cookie jar!

    1. Yes, I'm a big fan of bright kitchens as well. Yay for fast TM runs!!! I have definitely developed a lot of speed on the TM, so that's fantastic. Keep up the great work!

  5. I really like the touches you added to the kitchen. Unfortunately our kitchen right now is so small, but hopefully when we have a bigger one some day I'll be able decorate it cute!

    1. Thanks friend - come visit anytime! It has taken me a REALLY long time to finally get the right look for the kitchen. For having a very small house, the kitchen is surprisingly large and I'm definitely thankful for that.

  8. I love the vintage look of your kitchen! I just had my floors replaced in the LR/DR. It makes you feel so much better when you can remodel or redecorate something you were not happy with.

    1. Thank you! The next step is doing hardwood through the adjacent living area and the kitchen. Then I'll be "done"...at least for now.

    1. Aw thanks Courtney! I've never been a fan of the green counters but I couldn't deal with the price tag to redo them...so I finally found a color scheme that seems to work. :)

  10. Your kitchen is super cute! I haven't seen that Maroon 5 video but I do like the song, I need to add it to my half marathon playlist for this weekend, too. Cards Against Humanity is so much fun to play with a big group and also crazy when you get older people like parents, aunts, uncles, etc involved!

  11. I love your glass canisters! My dining/kitchen area is in need of some love - pretty plain. I played CAH for the first time this fall - I was def late to the game as well.

  12. Decorating is so much fun. We've been slow going with it since moving into our house in July. Its fun to still have projects to do and not feel like the house is completely "done."

  13. My mom had this cookie jar that someone brought her from Mexico when we were babies. It was a crazy decorated cat and in the kitchen forever. My brother begged her for it when he moved to Seattle, so she gave it to him. Then visiting him over this past summer, I didn't see it in his kitchen, so I asked about it. He acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. My guess is it went away with his ex-girlfriend. Dork. I love that your mom found you a double on eBay!

  14. I got the NYTimes for years and loved it. There's just something about holding the actual paper for me! Recently I've just been reading online but I may need to go back to my old school ways. And I need to play Cards Against Humanity!
