5 Running Trips

As part of the Friday linkup with the girls of DC, Courtney, Mar and Cynthia we are posting about trips today, specifically running trips.  Both Christine and I love to travel and many of our races have included an airplane ride to the starting line.  Here are four favorite travel races to date:

1.  Princess Half Marathon  Of course we had to include the race that started our commitment to running and races.  February 2011 was our first Princess half and I have enjoyed the race every year since that first one. A weekend at Disney with the girls is pretty sweet too!

2.  Rock 'n Roll Dublin  While we were both jet lagged and had indulged in Guinness and other treats the day before our race, we had a blast running through Dublin. This was a wonderful way to see the historic sights, checking out some we would visit later on in the week.  Having Tom and Adam along to cheer for us and help us celebrate at a pub afterward made this trip really special.

3. Marine Corps Marathon  Going to our nation's capital is a wonderful vacation on it's own and adding a race makes it perfect for runners.  An interesting race course, this marathon passes by many of the historic monuments and sights in Washington.  At the finish line, having a soldier put a medal around your neck is very special and a perfect ending to the race.

4. Rock 'n Roll Virginia Beach  This race in a place where we lived for 7 years is one that we have participated in several times.  This year, it is on our calendar again and we look forward to the weekend at the beach and running together. Be prepared if you choose this one though, it is very hot! One of the highlights of the weekend is the concert that is part of your race entry fee on Sunday night.

I purposely did not choose a number 5 because let's face it, we have many more destination races that we hope to do.  My list includes the London Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, Berlin Marathon. Do you see a pattern here?  Of course our race weekend next week will be (hopefully) our favorite so far. The Boston Marathon and B.A.A. 5k will keep us busy and running through the streets of Boston and beyond.

Do you have a favorite trip or race destination?  Please share!

  7. Such a great list! I don't think I knew there was a rock and roll race in Dublin. I have a friend in Dublin I'd love to visit and that might be a good excuse! I love the collage of photos from the princess race throughout the years :)

  10. Seattle was a lot of fun. In addition to a great race course, we went on a tour of the Boeing plant and there's a fantastic air museum there. Arizona is a great race destination also.

  11. I wanted to run the 5k next week since I'll be in Boston but it was sold out! Have a wonderful time! At one time we had talked about doing the Dublin half marathon but we didn't make it. I bet that was pretty cool. I live near Disneyland and will definitely do a Disney race sometime soon! I think there's one that opens registration in July? Have a wonderful weekend and fun in Boston!

  12. My favorite trip ever was the summer I spent backpacking through Europe when I was in college. I would love to recreate it, but I'm realistic. I don't have that much time or money! My favorite race destination so far was NY for the 2013 NYCM--such an amazing experience!

  20. I have MCM at the top of my list. I've never been to DC, so that's a big factor in my desire to run it. I can't think of a better reason to plan a trip there.

  23. Of the races you mention, I've run the Marine Corps Marathon, Rock 'N' Roll Virginia Beach, and Boston. The MCM will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first marathon and I've run it ten times. Let's face it, there's no race like Boston. Have fun!
