Weekly Workout Roundup: Feb 15th

Happy President's Day! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and perhaps you're enjoying a day off today. Last week was pretty hectic for me. I ended up serving on a jury Monday and Tuesday and spent a lot of time studying and catching up on physical therapy later in the week, not to mention that serving on the jury for a criminal case left me pretty emotionally drained.  I also saw my orthopedist on Friday and he felt confident that there is no tissue or ligament damage in my knee that would warrant surgery -YAY! It seems like it's just a really pissed off, totally inflamed knee. For now, I'm doing 4 more weeks of physical therapy and then we'll go from there. I'm still on the bike at the gym for a few more weeks, which I don't love but I'll tolerate if it means long term success. And Mom sent me this photo of her biking in Miami. Since it's approximately 18 degrees in VA as I'm writing this post, I guess you can say I'm a little jealous!

Did you do anything fun for Valentine's Day? Adam and I got dressed up for a yummy brunch at a southern-style restaurant in the neighborhood where he used to live. I got the chicken and waffle...and it was a red velvet waffle y'all. YUM! We saw an afternoon matinee of Zoolander 2 (kinda funny, kinda weird), and had a cozy evening at home by a warm fire.
Broke our rule of no cell phones for the weekend to capture a quick
selfie before our incredible brunch!
We are linking up with Holly at Hohoruns and Tricia at MississippiPiddlin' for their weekly wrap link.  Here are our workouts for the week!

  1. I'm kind of wishing you took a picture of those red velvet waffles and chicken. Both good things but an odd combination, no? I noticed at Trails End in WDW they had sweet potato waffles in their chicken and waffles. I did not order it although I was tempted!
I am jealous that you get to serve Jury Duty! I have always wanted to do that...lol. Glad you had a cozy valentine's weekend!

    1. You know, I always said I wanted to serve on a jury and I'm glad I did but it was really inconvenient and also quite draining. Probably something everyone should do but it would be so much simpler if you knew you had to go on certain days.

    1. OMG it was so good. I thought hard about ordering something else but then was like, Christine, when are you going to eat a red velvet waffle? Probably never! Get it. MMMMMM

  4. Sounds like you had a great Valentines Day! Red velvet waffles sound amazing!! That's great news about your knee! Hopefully it will calm down soon. I have never had jury duty and I hope I never have too. I can see where that would be draining. Great job on your workouts last week. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Tara! Yes, that waffle was delicious. Definitely looking forward to a new week and hopefully no major schedule changes, unlike last week with jury duty.

  5. Jury Duty, awesome! I am one of those rare people who actually enjoy doing it. I was on a jury for a 2 week period, I loved it. But not everyone else felt the same especially the longer it went.
The picture biking in Miami, I am jealous too, as it's still very much winter here as well.
Keep up on that PT, you'll get back to the running life you love soon!!!

    1. Thanks, Kristy! I did enjoy the jury duty experience but it was somewhat inconvenient and definitely a lot of waiting!

  6. So glad to hear that your knee isn't so bad that you have to have surgery. Hopefully after another couple weeks of PT you'll be feeling a lot better.

    1. Oh my gosh, I about jumped for joy when he said that. If nothing else, it was good motivation to keep working hard at PT.

  8. Oh Christine Red velvet waffles sounds wonderful! Where they topped with anything? Nah maybe I don't want to know, lol. That's great news from you Dr. on your knee. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! I'd be jealous too of mom! Thanks so much ladies for linking up with us!!

    1. A little drizzle of buttercream frosting, candied pecans, and of course, chicken. It wasn't too sweet which was nice. And yes, definitely a light at the end of the tunnel.

  9. Yay for no surgery! And it does sound exhausting serving on a jury. I've never had to do that. I hope your mom is having fun in Miami! I'm definitely jealous given the weather we've had here this week :)

    1. I normally don't hate winter but it's been so wet here....either snow or rain or ice. If nothing else, I am ready for some sunshine even if I have to bundle up!

  10. That's great you don't have to go through surgery :) Once you get back into running you should try November Project. I believe there's one in Virginia Beach. I do NP DC pretty much every Wednesday and Friday. Its an overall great workout!

    1. I've heard awesome things about NP but unfortunately it's kind of far from where I live - about 30 minutes and for an early morning workout, no way! ;)

  11. Good news that there's nothing serious wrong the the knee! I can't wait to see both of you back on the road!

  12. A red velvet waffle sounds amazing! chicken and waffles are really popular here but i've never seen a red velvet version. I bet my husband would love that.

My mom served on a jury once and it was a pretty major case (actually a murder trial). It was years ago when I was in high school. It really impacted her and upset her, and I could tell it was wrecked emotional havoc for a few weeks even when it was done. I don't blame you to relax after it; everyone knocks jury duty but it really does take a toll on you if you have to serve...

Looks like a good week of workouts and keeping up with the PT!

    1. Yes, luckily we didn't have a case quite like that but there was some pretty intense violence and it took a much greater toll on me than I realized at the time. I'm hoping I won't get called for the duration of my term.

  13. It looks like you both had great weeks! I'm not going to lie, I love winter but I'd love for it to be warm enough to ride a bike right now! But for now I guess we'll stick to biking indoors :) Yay for no surgery and hopefully getting back to normal soon!

    1. Yes! I don't really mind winter that much but it's been really wet here and I'm ready for some sunshine even if it's cold and I have to bundle up!

  14. I've only gone through jury selection and THAT was stressful. I can just imagine how draining being on a jury would be. Red velvet waffles? Yes please!

    1. Yes the selection process was kind of stressful and as it wore on, I knew I was getting picked ha!

  15. Must be jury duty season. Two of my co-workers just had jury duty this past week so I was helping to cover down their program areas. Hope you two had a fantastic Valentine's Day! Can you believe that we are all not headed to Princess this week?

    1. Must be! I ended up getting picked for our very first day so I'm really really hoping I don't get picked again for the rest of the month.

  16. Yay that you don't have to have surgery! I've been wondering how Zoolander 2 is. I like stupid funny movies so liked Zoolander. I'm also jealous of the Miami weather!

    1. I think you would like it then. There are definitely some funny nods to the first Zoolander and there were plenty of moments that left me wondering "what is happening right now?" Will Ferrell is amazing too!

  17. We saw the movie too, my hubby likes simple humor lol it had its moments. It as a very chilly weekend in VA! It is a hard not be jealous of the FL weather right now :) However, in a few months I won't feel that way, it is too hot there for me. You are maintaining your strength training very well, hopeyou feel better soon.

  18. Jury duty. YUCK. I had just started a new job, and got summoned to serve during my second week...and got chosen for the jury. That trial lasted a week. I go back to my "new" job (having forgotten everything I'd learned), and got summoned (again) a week later...and got chosen (again). And, that's only my first experience...I've got a few others that don't need reminiscing...;-)

    1. Oh Lord, that is my worst nightmare. We were called for the first day of our month-long term so we have 3 more weeks. I'm really hoping I don't get called or picked to serve again.
