Weekly Workout Roundup: Mar 28th

While I tend to workout or run solo, I always enjoy having company. And I definitely enjoy a chance to run with Mom! With my parents in town for the Easter weekend holiday, we took advantage and enjoyed 10 miles together on Saturday morning. Now I'm not anywhere near ready to run 10 miles, so I did an easy mile (the first full mile I have run in a long time!) and then hopped on my bike for the rest.

After our run, we decided that we ought to enjoy the sun since the weather forecast was iffy for the weekend. We decided to head over to the Botanical Gardens to check out a new exhibit called Lantern Asia. It turned out to exceed all of our expectations! It was a one mile-ish walking trail and we saw some really neat sculptures made out of silk, paper, glass, and porcelain. It represented many different Asian cultures and countries. The exhibit is also open in the evenings so Adam and I are planning to go back to see it lit up at night.
One of our favorites, a giant peacock. There were actually two others on either side of this one.
Mom with her Chinese zodiac symbol - the snake!
The photos don't really do it justice. If you live in the Hampton Roads area, it's definitely worth stopping by. And now for our workouts...

  1. My mom doesn't run but she does walk, as does my dad. I love walking with both of them and as soon as I am home, its one of the first things we do.

    1. My grandma is a big walker so I grew up with lots of big family walks when everyone was together. Set a nice example for the kids to be active!

  2. I am totally with you: I usually train alone, and that makes my time when I train with others such a treat!

  6. Good job on running the mile. I know I was so excited when I was able to get a complete mile in without a break. I know it's not a big deal for some people but when you are just starting back again it is a big deal.
I bet that Garden will be beautiful lit up at night.

  11. So fun that you got to run together and hang out! Those gardens look fun! I'm a little envious of the green grass and flowers in that picture. Looks like spring is in bloom there!
It's spring here too, but with spring snow, LOL looking out the window now looks like a fresh 4 inches and still coming, LOL
Looks like both your training is coming along quite good! (I'm a solo runner too, but think it would be totally fun to run with family!)

    1. All of a sudden everything is green here! It's been quite nice to have a real spring after a few years of feeling like we jumped straight into winter. Hope warmer weather is on the horizon for you Kristy!

  12. How cool you both got to enjoy time with each other. I am patiently waiting until they open back up the campground so I can enjoy bike rides in between my runs. It is currently closed due to high waters but shouldn't be too much longer!
How very cool the exhibit was and I can't imagine how it would be all lite up with lights at night! Glad you two had a good week and as always thinks for joining us in the Weekly Wrap! :)
