Random thoughts from a run

I intended to get a post up this morning but sleep was more important last night! That 4:25 alarm comes quickly!

It's been really nice to hit the roads again. I forgot what it feels like to have some time to sort through my thoughts and quiet my mind. I truly missed that aspect of running. And now that I'm back at work, it's nice to have some time and space to quietly process my day. So what has been rattling around in my running brain, you ask? Well so glad you asked...read on!

Man this sucks.

Why does the first mile or two always suck so much?

Maybe I should do a warmup before my 10k so my legs are ready.

Eh maybe no warmup. Who am I kidding? I won't be prepared to run more miles than a 10k!

Wow, that house has beautiful flower beds. Maybe I should go get some flowers for our front beds.

Ugh, the satan dogs are out. *runs down middle of road to avoid said dogs*

I wonder if I should set a time goal for my next race. I would love to see 8s on my watch but I know that's probably a bit too ambitious.

What am I making for dinner tonight? ...........oh right! That pineapple quinoa chicken salad thingie. I hope I have all the ingredients.

Man it's hot! I miss winter running already.

Dang, my pace is pretty strong today.

I kinda wish I was running a marathon later this year. Wait, did I just think that?

Maybe I should consider a half instead. Maybe one that's flat so I could chase a sub-1:50. Gah, I'm dying to run another half PR.

Hmm maybe I don't want to work that hard this summer. It might be nice to crash at the beach on weekends rather than training my butt off.

Yeehaw I feel great! Oh wait, I'm almost done with my miles today...

What are you thinking on your runs these days? Happy running!

  1. Running thoughts are always so funny when you try to go back and think about them! People ask what I think about during long runs and I honestly can not remember, even if it's right after the run.

    1. They are! So random and sometimes all over the place.

  2. The first few miles are ALWAYS the worst. I actually started a post about it. It always feels like Ive taken a month off during the first 3 miles of every run for me.

    1. Yes! Same. I think that's especially true since my endurance isn't great right now. And then all of a sudden, I'm like "hey this isn't so bad!"

  3. Haha "maybe I don't want to work that hard this summer". Isn't that the truth! I'm just at a place where I'm enjoying running on my own time at a comfy pace. Not chasing anything here! -m

    1. :) Hey, I'm trying to be real hehe! I think we're in very similar places. Sure, going fast is nice but just enjoying the experience is a really wonderful change.

    1. Same here...totally the "squirrel!" mentality. All.the.time.

  5. Yesterday I was just thinking about how tired I felt after taking 3 days off due to being sick. I didn't look at my pace until I was done -- it was my slowest run all year (with the exception of running trails that involved climbing steep stairs & ice).

If I lived where you do, I doubt I'd want to train for a half in the summer, either! Summers are usually our payback for enduring winter up here.

    1. Ha, yes summer training here is hard! Although I haven't trained for a fall half in a few years and I'm sure it wouldn't be nearly has challenging as marathon training. When you have to get up at 5 to try to finish a run by 9, that's what really sucks!

    1. Isn't it terrible that I call them that? But they're these really mean dogs and they just run in their front yard (electric fence). They're always barking and growling and snarling at you when you go by. I just hate going by that house.

    Only kidding.

Running before work is great. I have to start.

    1. Yes, totally nuts! It's been really rough but I "slept in" until 6:30 today (Saturday) and it felt glorious. Definitely nuts ;)

  8. I am preoccupied with not getting crapped on by a bird. My favorite running routes are under trees with so.much.birdcrap. They always come back in the spring. But they are hard to avoid, I kind of need to go out of my way...

    1. Haha that's kind of funny. I do remember spring in Paris = birds everywhere. So it doesn't surprise me that you have to avoid them a bit.

  9. your thoughts were so funny!
I'm glad to hear that even seasoned runners hate the first few miles.
Will you share the pineapple quinoa chicken salad thingie recipe?
