These days...

Happy Friday, friends!! I am so excited for this upcoming weekend. We are celebrating our first wedding anniversary by having dinner at the place where we got hitched last June. Yeehaw! I thought about writing a running-centric post today but honestly I haven't really run since my 10k 2 weeks ago. Call me a slacker, but I've been enjoying some new workouts and getting back to my favorite spin bike at the gym.  So here are some updates, on running, training, and life.

These beauties from my yard make me happy!

These days...I'm starting to think about putting together a training plan for Disneyland Paris. I think I'll use Run Less Run Faster again, but likely won't use aggressive training paces.

These days...I'm really loving strength training. Two nights ago, Adam commented on how much my shoulder muscles are developing. Boom.

These days...I'm starting to ponder some other summer races. Summer is 5k season and I think it would be fun to have some other events on the calendar to help keep me motivated.

These days...I have been thinking about how this first year as a married couple has been everything and nothing like what I imagined. The highs - beginning a new career, a killer honeymoon in Hawaii, and completing some really cool projects this year. The lows - losing our baby at 9 weeks gestation, quitting my job due to insane stress, and sometimes awkwardly transitioning into married life. But man, I am so happy to be Mrs. Suter. Best decision ever!

These days...I'm realizing that while I am not actively working out at the gym, demonstrating exercises and moving equipment is really working my muscles. All.Day.Long.

These days...I'm craving diversity in my smoothies.

These days...I'm wondering if my body type is a fit for the fitness industry.

These days...The Chainsmokers are my jam. On repeat all the time.
Vitamin Sea is a necessity
These days...I am so pumped that summer is here. The hydrangeas are blooming, the grill propane tank is full and our patio is ready! Oh, and the beach is calling.

What's your favorite off-the-beaten-path smoothie recipe? #sharingiscaring

What's on your agenda for the weekend?

  1. Is summer just Grand? A favorite (and simple) smoothie recipe I use to use with the kids in my Nutrition class is Frozen fruit, orange juice, vanilla yogurt, and a dash of vanilla. -M
    Happy Anniversary coming up!

    1. I hadn't thought to use straight vanilla. I like that idea!

  2. Congrats on your 1st anniversary! I seriously can't remember back that far (altho I do remember our wedding, but that was almost 31 yrs ago after all). Generally we travel for our anniversary, and don't exchange gifts.

You've no idea how lucky you are to live near a beach . . .

    1. I love the idea of traveling for an anniversary. We toyed with that idea this year but the timing just didn't work. We are taking a short trip the end of July that we're calling an anniversary trip :)

  4. Is there actually a preferred body type for the fitness industry? I mean, it's not like ballet, right? The idea is to encourage everyone, no matter what category their shape fits into. Do trainers tend to all look the same? I'm legitimately curious now.

    1. I love your comment Jennifer. I don't necessarily think there is a single body type but I definitely feel like there is some pressure to be thin, be toned, and have abs.

    2. Christine, you can come work at our gym! There's a very doughy guy, two average guys and two athletic but not super skinny girls working as trainers. Definitely not the Jillian Michaels type bodies (and who can tell under those boxy black polos anyway?) LOL

  5. Your wedding picture is beautiful! You look stunning.
I like the idea of run less, I will be trying that approach in easier paced mode when I start training.
I need to clean this weekend lol not fun, but needed!

    1. Spending time on household chores over the weekend is never my favorite but I love how accomplished I feel at the end of them! Hope you snuck in a little fun!

    1. I was just reflecting on how lucky we are to be near the beach. It's easy to take for granted but it is really a treat. Hope you are having a great weekend, Darlene!

  7. Happy 1st anniversary! We celebrated ours in Rome of all places and we were the first ones admitted into the Colosseum that morning. Ha! You've had a whirlwind year. Enjoy the beautiful summer!

    1. That is amazing, Marcia! We were actually just joking about how long our travel list is and Italy is pretty much #1 right now.

  9. Can not help you with a smoothie recipe... not my thing ! But I do think that every body type can be a fitness body. If you are elite or professional, it may be different, but for the majority of us, i think we need to make due with what we were given.

    1. Definitely agree with your comment about making do with what you are given. I will never be one of those 5'10'' fitness models with lean legs. Just not me! But sometimes it can be easy to lose sight of that in an industry where looks can be king.

  10. Congratulations on your anniversary! I agree you guys have been through a LOT in a year of marriage, but you've stuck it out (but that's just what you do). The beach looks like an amazing way to spend a weekend, too.

Smoothies... I like chocolate protein powder blended with PB2 and cashew milk. I'm pretty simple, though. I drink a shake almost every day for breakfast.

    1. Thanks, Amy! Yes, you are so right on your comment about sticking it out because it's what you do. Someone told me something about marriage and it has always stuck with me..."You don't always have to like the other person but you have to love them." Hope you are having a great weekend!

  12. I love you hydrangeas.
And I think more body types need to be represented to show that you can be fit and healthy without looking just like everyone else.
