Weekly Workout Roundup: June 13th

Sometimes I am reminded why I love living in Hampton Roads...and that usually happens during the summer! We are so lucky to have a fantastic beach, actually several beaches, within reasonable driving distance. When we woke up on Saturday, we debated a few options for activities. I went outside to water the flowers and immediately realized it was the perfect beach day. We tweaked our plans to head to the gym and instead, did a quick run through the neighborhood, changed into our swimsuits, packed a quick lunch, grabbed our beach necessities, and jumped in the car.  We had a glorious day on the beach and even spent some time with one of my dear friends from high school. Yes, it can definitely be a pain to park down at the beach, but that small headache is totally worth it. After living near the water for 11 years (whoa!), I'm not sure I could move inland.

Today is our one year wedding anniversary. It's kind of hard to believe, actually! We got married at a small historic home that was turned into a bed and breakfast-type of inn. In the basement, there's a fabulous restaurant that wins tons of awards. We didn't use the restaurant for the wedding because it didn't really work for space and our vibe. We had a fantastic meal on Saturday night - panzella, duck for me and steak for Adam, and salted caramel and chocolate tart. If you live in Hampton Roads, definitely hit up The Cellars. We love this place!

I felt like I had a pretty good week of workouts, but I have definitely been slacking on my PT exercises. When we ran on Saturday, my knee felt a little creaky...not sure that's a great description but it wasn't exactly pain. It just felt a little off. This week, I really need to start refocusing and make that a habit again.

  1. The beach sounds like so much fun! Sadly, our beaches are gross (the water and the sand). Haha! Glad you enjoyed the weekend! Happy Anniversary!! :)

    1. Our water isn't the best at the ocean but it's pretty clear at the bay. We are definitely very lucky!

  2. I'd give anything to live near the water. In fact, my husband and I are approaching empty nest years and are seriously in discussion about living on a lake. Probably in Wisconsin, tho. We've got aging parents and need to stay fairly close.

    1. The lakes in the midwest are so amazing - I bet there are a lot of different options of waterfront living. We are definitely very lucky to be so near a nice beach.

  3. Sounds like you both had a great week, and I'm so envious that you live by a beach. I love the ocean, and so rarely get to be near it. :(

I can feel when my IT band is mildly irritate -- it's not painful, it's just not normal, so I understand.

  5. Happy Anniversary! I'm so jealous that you live as close to the beach as you do. It definitely was perfect beach weather this weekend, and I would have loved to have been able to sink my toes into the sand.

  6. Happy anniversary! My husband's name is Adam, too. =) The venue where you held your wedding sounds spectacular and very unique! That is wonderful you were able to plan an impromptu trip to the beach. Virginia Beach is such a beautiful area! BTW - I've never heard of a terabit - what is it?

    1. Haha whoa! I had to word-find that in the post. I think that was an auto-correct from a misspelling of elliptical. Whoa. Crazy ha! :)

    1. We had a pretty miserably rainy spring so I wonder if that's making it's way across the Atlantic. I definitely will send you some good vibes for warm sun. It does so much for the soul!

  8. I know just how you feel. It was a perfect day to hike on Sunday, so we did a similar thing. I would love to be able to just bip down to the beach for the day. Sounds perfect!

    1. Diane, you will have a blast at RnR VB! It is such a fun race, although it is usually really really hot. If you have any questions about the area, feel free to send a note along. We have lived here for a while so I have some good locals-ish recommendations if you want them. :)

  11. Happy anniversary! Apparently, Chicago was just put on a list of America's Best Beach Cities or something like that. Um, ok. But I will say kudos to them for including lake beaches, too, lol.

    1. Really?! I never would have guessed...although maybe that's why they made the list. I sometimes feel like those travel lists include off the beaten path places.

  12. Happy Anniversary to you and what a beautiful picture on the beach! Oh wow great to see you both training for the DL Paris race together too! Pam how did you do in the Hula Hoop contest? I use to be decent at this but dang my hips don't move quite as well as they use too.

  15. I've never seen VA Beach so empty-except when I go running there in the late fall/winter! Looks so peaceful. Happy Anniversary-I've never tried the Cellars but I think I'll have to go with my husband-thanks for the recommendation!

    1. They recently brought in a new chef and we thought the food was the best we have ever had so it's definitely worth a shot. It's definitely on the pricey side so we only really go for special occasions.

I know that slacking with the PT work, I have not been as diligent as I should be either. Looks like you had a great quiet beach day day!

  19. Happy Anniversary Christine! Living that close to the beach would be fantastic! I have to keep reminding myself to do the PT. I don't know why it's the first thing to go. It shouldn't be! Pam, I see you are going to triathlon clinics. Are you contemplating one or just going for kicks? What are they teaching you? Thanks for linking with us ladies!
